LeRoy M. Lee Gullickson, 73, of Rapid City, died on Sun., Feb. 29, 2004 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Lee was born Apr. 12, 1930 at Lake Preston, SD to Leo and Edla Gullickson, the oldest of four boys and was raised on the farm. He attended Hetland High School for three years and then graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1949. He attended college at Brookings for one year, then Nettleton College in Sioux Falls for a year before working in the State Treasurers office in Pierre. From 1951 to 1953 he served in the Army in Korea as a stenographer to a General. After the war he graduated from USD at Vermillion in 1956, majoring in accounting. He then worked in Detroit, Mich. for several years in an accounting office, coming to Rapid City in 1960 where he worked with Joe Connally until 1965. He was assistant city auditor from 1965 to 1968 and city auditor then until 1972, and was secretary of the Sixth District Criminal Justice Division while city auditor. He worked for Godfrey Brake Service for 28 years as their accountant. He married Arlys Ann Schilder on Apr. 24, 1965. He was involved with Boy Scouts for 10 years as a Scoutmaster and Neighborhood Commissioner. He was awarded a scholarship to Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 1964. He was a charter member of Atonement Lutheran Church which started in 1962, served as church treasurer for 19 years, served on the church council many years, sang in the choir, was treasurer for the Atonement Native American/Woyatan Ministry and Lutheran Campus Ministry at SDSM & T for two years. Lee was a member of the Rapid City Jaycees and served on their board of directors for several years, was secretary and treasurer of South Dakota Public Accountants for one year, was a Noon Optimist where he served as secretary, treasurer and winner of the Optimist of the Year award. He was a member of the Rushmore Shrine of Democracy Barbershoppers and was active in PTA at the schools their daughters attended. Lee was also a Host Coordinator for the Share Program for seven years. He is survived by his wife, Arlys Gullickson of Rapid City; two daughters, LeeAnn Lewis and her husband Tim and grandchildren Courtney and Kelsie all of Albuquerque, NM, Lisa Gullickson and her fiance Bob Fields of Rapid City; three brothers, Dale Gullickson and Larry Gullickson, both of Sioux Falls, and Roger Gullickson of Lake Preston. He was preceded in death by his parents of Lake Preston.
