Martin J. Pfeiffer, 80, Rapid City, died Thursday, August 7, 2008, at the Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House. Martin was born July 2, 1928, at Freeman, South Dakota, to John and Rosalia (Walz) Pfeiffer. The younger of two children, he attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, joining the Air Force in March of 1951. He graduated from Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls. He married Leila Lee Young in Pierre, South Dakota, on September 18, 1955. Martin served as general manager of Petroleum Equipment and Wholesale Plumbing and Heating Company in Sioux Falls; he was employed by the company from 1952 until his retirement in 1993, when he joined his wife in Rapid City. He was a member of the Shrine of Democracy Barbershop Chorus, the American Legion, and Zion Lutheran Church. While in Sioux Falls, Martin sang with the Sioux Falls Singing Legionnaires National Championship Chorus. He was a founding member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and served as treasurer of the South Dakota District Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, as well as on the board of directors for Lutheran Social Services. Survivors include his wife, Lee Pfeiffer, Rapid City, two sons: Kevin Pfeiffer (wife, Isabel and son, Karl), Berlin, Germany, and Steven Pfeiffer (wife Gina, and their children, Madeline and Alex), Sioux Falls, and a daughter, Lee Ellen Seeba (husband, Gary and their daughters, Haley and Rachel), Sioux Falls, and numerous nieces and nephews.
